Keeping the Faith Until the End (Episode 65)

In a race, it’s not how you start but how you finish. If you start a race leading the pack but end up losing badly, how well you started won’t even matter. The same thing is true about this Christian journey. What matters in the end is how you finish.
It is possible to start out strong with the Lord and end up in a bad place. "The Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils" (1 Timothy 4:1, NASB). This podcast episode focuses on the biblical requirement for keeping the faith until the end. Evangelist Frank King share three things Christians should do to this end.
Some believers are too casual about their relationship with the Lord. But Paul writes, "Let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall" (1 Corinthians 10:12, NASB). The more presumptious you are about your ability to stand, the less diligent you will be toward keeping the faith until the end.
None of us will have a flawless walk with God. Between the beginning of our walk with Him and the end of our time here, we may have some periods that we are not proud of. But in the end, what really matters is how you finish with the Lord.

Don’t Be a Respecter of Persons (Episode 64)

In his epistle, James writes, "My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons" (James 2:1, KJV). Based upon those words, you can be a Christian and a respecter of persons at the same time. But based upon the verse, although we can, we should not do this. That means doing this is not good in the sight of the Lord.
Is it not absolutely amazing how Christians can grow in many areas of their life and not move the needle in the area of their mistreatment of others? Sad but true, the local church seldom addresses this sin during corporate gatherings.
A respecter of persons is someone who treats others according to their rank, status or importance. It results in the preferential treatment of some people at the expense of others. It causes one to look up to some while looking down on others. This conduct is unacceptable--sinful--in the eyes of the Lord.
We all have some personal biases. But these must never be the basis upon how we treat others or relate to them. The Word of God must be our guide for that. Accordingly, James writes, "If ye fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well" (James 2:8, KJV).

Embracing Your Divine Purpose (Episode 63)

Divine purpose refers to the purpose God has for our life. He gave us this purpose in Christ before the world began. Paul writes that God has "saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity" (2 Timothy 1:9, NASB).
It is each of our responsibility to seek and find God's purpose for our life. The more we understand and embrace that divine purpose, the more we will let it govern our life. But many people today, including some believers, live with no sense of purpose in their life. Those who view life that way will live life accordingly. That’s why we must know know that we are people of a higher calling. We weren't put here simply to go through life aimlessly and then die.
On the other hand, God gives each of us freedom of choice. Hence, we will no doubt do things counter to our divine purpose. The good news is that in spite of the misguided things we do, God knows how to make His purpose for us ultimately prevail. His hand is upon our lives to lead us to that divinely appointed place.

Perfect Love Casts Out Fear (Episode 62)

Love is like anything else God commands us about. We are free to live in love to the degree that we want to. God does not make us love others. Rather, He equips us to do so. If we want to, we can choose to not love some people while loving others. This podcast episode addresses some practical reasons why we should perfect the area of living in love.
In John's first epistle, he addresses what he calls perfect love. He writes, "God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him" (1 John 4:16, NASB). This perfect love gives us confidence toward God in the day of judgment because He is love. And as He is, so are we in this world (verse 17).
We should regard God's call upon our life to perfect love as our highest calling. Accordingly, we should pursue this goal more passionately than we do spiritual gifts. Jesus told His disciples to love one another so others might know they were His disciples (John 13:35). The world can't see God. But when we dwell in love, the world can see God through us because God is love.

The Power of Speaking the Word (Episode 61)

Jesus demonstrated the power of speaking the Word during His public ministry. Sometimes, as He ministered, the Bible says His Word was with power (Luke 4:32). He spoke to the winds, and they obeyed Him. He spoke to demons, and they obeyed Him. Even sickness and death obeyed Him when He spoke to them.
Jesus also taught His disciples to believe in the power of speaking the Word. He said if they were to speak to a mountain, telling it to be removed and doubt not, it would be done (Mark 11:23). That may sound somewhat radical, but we also have that authority to speak to the “mountains” in our life with faith and believe that things will change as a result of doing that.
No practical value exists in speaking to a literal mountain to be removed. But referring to the humongous size of a mountain underscores the power of speaking the Word with faith. In other words, if it can move a literal mountain, what about the relatively smaller things in our life? The Bible refers to God’s Word as the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). Hence, when we speak according to His Word, our words have power in the spiritual realm. This amazing power does not reside in us but in our faith in the power of God’s Word.

The Works of Men vs the Work of God (Episode 60)

Some things the church does in the name of the Lord these days are really the works of men, wrongly called the work of the Lord. We can expect this trend to increase as we approach the Lord's return. We must be careful not to be distracted by the works of men at the expense of doing the work of God.
No matter what you aspire to do, you will have opposition. Whether you are doing what God has sanctioned, or you are doing your own thing in the name of the Lord, you will have opposition—guaranteed. The important difference is that when you are doing the Lord’s work, He is on your side. He will fight on your behalf. And He will enable you to triumph--even in the midst of opposition. No one or nothing can stop the work of God. 
After Jesus returned to heaven, the religious leaders tried to stop the apostles from preaching Christ. The apostles refused to stop. The religious leaders were at their wits' end. Then stood up a wise and reputable man by the name of Gamaliel. He warned the religious leaders against opposing the work of God: "Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought. But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God" (Acts 5:38-39, KJV).

Having a Hunger for God (Episode 59)

What is your appetite for the things of God? Your answer to that question determines the kind of relationship with God that you will have. Your physical body, for instance, will not be strong and healthy if you lack appetite for nutritious food. The same thing is true about your spiritual health if you don't have a spiritual appetite. This podcast episode addresses the importance of having a hunger for God.
To have a hunger for God means that no matter where you are in your relationship with Him, you want more of Him. Accordingly, you do the things that help you realize that kind of progressive relationship with God. Jesus promised, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled" (Matthew 5:6, KJV),
In the Scriptures, the great servants of God and how God used them inspire and challenge us. These men and women of the Bible had at least one important thing in common. They were not casual in their relationship with God; they were all passionate about Him. Sad but true, in the church today, many people want to have a strong relationship with God, but they don't want to pray the price to have that kind of relationship with Him.

What Water Baptism Means (Episode 58)

Water baptism is one of the fundamental mandates for the Christian church. Before Jesus returned to heaven, He commanded His disciples to disciple the nations and to baptize new believers. That is still the mission of the Christian church today. In this episode, Evangelist Frank King explains the biblical meaning of this mandate from our Lord.
Some people make the mistake of equating baptism with salvation. But we are not saved by any form of religious activity. The truth is that everyone who has been saved through faith in Christ should become baptized, but not everyone who becomes baptized has been saved. Many people become baptized not knowing the biblical meaning behind what they are doing. To them, it is no more than a religious ritual.
God sent John the Baptist before Jesus to baptize. John required the people to express their repentance before he baptized them. His mission was to prepare the people for the coming of the Lord. Water baptism is significant for believers in Christ because it is the means by which we make a public statement that we identify with the death of Christ, and that we have chosen to live for Him and not for ourselves. It is to this end that our old, sinful nature has been crucified.

Our Flesh versus Our Spirit (Episode 57)

Even after we become a Christian, we are still clothed in human flesh. Hence, we remain subject to human desires and shortcomings. In effect, we are both a natural being and a spiritual being. These two don't get along. They oppose each other. "For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another....," Paul writes (Galatians 5:17, NASB).
All Christians experience this tug of war occasioned by our flesh versus our spirit. We will not outgrow that dynamic in this life. The good news is that we can live a life that pleases God in spite of that reality. That is the focus of this episode.
We all know that the desires of our flesh can be intense. They include illicit sexual desires, hatred, envy, anger, etc. But we have been born again, and the Holy Spirit lives in us. Through these, we have been empowered to win the war between our flesh and our spirit. We no longer have to obey the wrong desires of our flesh. We can choose to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill our wrong desires.

Trusting the Word of God (Episode 56)

We can’t see God. We trust God by trusting His Word. The psalmist writes, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105, NASB). Sometimes, what God says to us through His Word will defy all human logic. If everything He says to us must make sense to us before we act, we can’t effectively live the Christian life.
Sometimes, God challenges us to trust Him in areas where we think we don’t need His input. The church has too many people who choose to trust themselves and their own ability instead of trusting the Word of God. But the writer in the book of Proverbs warns us that what seems so right to us can turn out to be so wrong (Proverbs 14:12).
People say insanity is doing the same thing you did before but expecting different results. But what if the Lord asked you to do what you did unsuccessfully before, but to expect favorable results this time? That was the case with Peter and his fishing partners. After fishing all night and catching nothing, Jesus said to them, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch” (Luke 5:4, NASB). Peter obeyed the Lord, and their boats began to sink. That’s what can happen when you trust the Word of God.
